My experience of sharing the gospel with a patient~ ^__^

From Katherine

On Sunday, I really didn’t want to go to the medical evangelism conference because Luis just came back from his trip to South America.  I knew it was Satan trying to stop me from going because I felt lonely, scared, and anxious about going to the conference.  Regardless of my emotions, I attended the conference.  People at the conference were very nice.  However, I still felt lonely and antisocial.  I just wanted to hide in my room where no one can see me.

Throughout the conference the speakers shared about their experiences of addressing patient’s spiritual needs and gave us some tips on how to share the gospel with patients.  On the third day of the conference, we were given a chance to go to Loma Linda Medical Center to talk to patients in the wards, applying the principles given to us.  We would ask the patient couple questions regarding their spiritual lives and then if they permit, we will go through the 4 spiritual laws with them.

I entered the room where my patient, Edward, was.  Seeing the patient, I was a little intimidated because he looked like a typical Hispanic young man with no hair on his head.  He was lying on the bed, undergoing dialysis, a medical procedure where the patient’s blood is taken out and filtered through a machine.  He looked extremely painful. At this point, my fear was completely gone.  I felt Edward’s pain and Jesus’ love overflowed through me.  There were several times when I stopped and asked him if we should continue our questionnaire.  Despite of the pain, he insisted to continue our conversation.  He refused to get the pain medication from the nurse because he didn’t want to be put to sleep. I saw a thirsty heart, desiring to know God.  I prayed that Holy Spirit would come to ease his pain and to comfort him.  I then went through the “4 spiritual Laws”, i.e. “Do you want to know God personally” booklet, with Edward.  I was very surprised that Edward was so eager to read the scriptures himself.  God’s words are never spoken in vain.  It brought power into the room.  At the end, Edward prayed to receive Christ into his heart with me.  He told me that before we came, God had been holding him every night. “He held me in his arms.  He was so warm. I knew it was God but I couldn’t describe what he looks like.” said Edward.  “One night, I was walking with Jesus along a line.  On one side of the line, it was darkness and on the other, it was light.  I walked on the dark side while Jesus walked on the bright side.  He was holding my hand. The night after, I was walking with Jesus again along the line.  This time, I’m on the bright side with Jesus.”  Tear flowed down Edward’s eyes. “He pulled me over to the light.”  He was so ready to make that prayer. In fact, God had already revealed himself to Edward, His love and His light.  Edward knew God loved him very much.  I marveled at God’s work.  He IS a living God.  I really did not do much.  God brought me there to show me how much He loves me and Edward, and every single person on earth.

Thank you, Lord, for loving me so dearly. Thank you for allowing me to see a thirsty soul so I could love them as you love me.

Halleluiah!!! May the Glory be to our King, Jesus Christ. May His love endures forever!
